Mycoprotein is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) and has been approved for human consumption by the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Food Safety Authority. Since 1985, mycoprotein-based products have been available in the United Kingdom, with sales in other European nations beginning in 1991. It also has approvals in Switzerland, Norway, Taiwan, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
